Increased fire risk during the Advent season

In the pre-Christmas period, festive flower arrangements and candles are indispensable. Unfortunately, however, these are often the cause of house and apartment fires. At home, candles create a cozy atmosphere. However, they are also associated with an increased risk of fire. A candle that has just been flickering gently can soon reduce a living room to rubble. Most fires caused by candles occur due to carelessness. Anyone who leaves a room with candles burning always risks a house or apartment fire. Unattended candles can be knocked over by playing children or pets and easily ignite flammable objects. In addition, the scrawny brushwood of the Advent wreath and Christmas tree catches fire quickly. Therefore, no more candles should be lit on a scrawny Advent arrangement or Christmas tree.

Alternative: LED light chains and LED candles

LED fairy lights and LED candles are becoming established as a fire-safe alternative. Care must be taken to ensure that sockets are not overloaded and that multiple plugs are not connected to other multiple plugs. Snow sprays often contain the following propellants explosive liquid gas. Therefore, they should be used only with good ventilation and not in the presence of open flames, and the instructions on the spray should be followed. If a fire does occur, the fire department must be alerted first in an emergency. After that, rescue the victims and try to save the fire. Extinguish fire.

The BfB and bfu provide the following safety tips for a fire-free Advent and Christmas season:

  • Extinguish candles if they cannot be supervised.
  • Do not leave children or pets alone in a room with burning candles.
  • Place candles in a stable position, on a non-combustible base with sufficient distance to textiles, decorations and other combustible materials.
  • Ensure a firm, upright hold of the candles on the Advent wreath and Christmas tree.
  • Replace candles before they burn down.
  • Drought Advent arrangements never in the Fireplace burn, but dispose of.
  • Keep a bucket of water or fire blanket on hand for emergencies.
  • ...or immediately convert to LED candles in real wax look (tip of the editors)!
