Enactment of the PPE Ordinance and the Gas Appliances Ordinance
On October 25, 2017, the Federal Council adopted the Ordinance on the Safety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the Ordinance on the Safety of Gas Appliances. This ensures the free movement of goods with the EU in these areas.
The EU PPE Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/425) and the EU Gas Appliances Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/426) have been adapted to the new legal framework for the marketing of products. In order to maintain equivalence between Swiss law and EU law under the Agreement between Switzerland and the EU on Mutual Recognition in relation to Conformity Assessment (MRA, SR 0.946.526.81), the PPE Ordinance and the Gas Appliances Ordinance are adopted. The revised versions will enter into force on April 21, 2018. Art. 3 para. 5 PPE Ordinance and Art. 3 para. 5 Gas Appliances Ordinance will already enter into force on November 6, 2017. This means that the designation of conformity assessment bodies can already take place before April 21, 2018.
Thanks to the adaptation of technical regulations, the free movement of goods in the field of personal protective equipment and gas appliances between Switzerland and the EU can continue to be guaranteed without compromising safety.
