ETH Zurich fully supports the revision of the BSV 2026
An interview with the program coordinator of the continuing education course (MAS) "Fire Safety Engineering (FSE)" at ETH Zurich was published in issue 5/2023 of the specialist publication save. Michael Klippel explains.
"In response to the article published in issue 5 (from p. 22) of the save publication of October 2023, ETH Zurich expressly emphasizes that we support the revision of the fire safety regulations on 100%. On the part of the program management of the MAS Fire Safety Engineering, we are looking forward to the BSV 2026, as these form important foundations for the application of performance- and risk-based verifications, for example with the definition of protection objectives for this continuing education course.
The MAS teaches performance and risk-based verification. The title of the above article was taken out of context and is not correct on its own. No specific prescriptive national guidelines are taught in the MAS. The scientific basis of the course's verification procedures can be found in the SFPE handbook and the curriculum is derived from the International Master of Fire Safety Engineering. The legal basis for these verification procedures in Switzerland can be found in the fire protection regulations. We would like to apologize to our readers for this choice of words and look forward to working with the VKF to further advance engineering-based fire protection in Switzerland."
