As part of the "First Responder Canton Zurich" pilot project, GVZ Gebäudeversicherung Kanton Zürich has gone live with the first responder app. Registered first responders can now be called out for an operation by the Zurich Protection and Rescue Operations Center via the app.

Around 1,100 people have registered as first responders since the pilot project was launched in mid-February 2024. GVZ Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Security Mario Fehr thanks everyone involved.

First responders provide immediate assistance in cardiovascular emergencies and thus bridge the critical time until the emergency services arrive. First responders are always called out at the same time as the emergency services if they can arrive at the scene before the professional emergency services.

As soon as the emergency services arrive on site, they take over further care of the patient. The first responder app (Rescuetrack) has been successfully in use in the canton of Schwyz since February 2024. Thanks to the experience gained so far, important optimizations have been made to the app, which are now benefiting the first responder system in the canton of Zurich.

"The launch of the app marks another milestone in the First Responder pilot project and thus in saving lives," says a delighted Mario Fehr, Chairman of the GVZ Board of Directors and Cantonal Director of Security. "We are well on the way to ensuring comprehensive emergency care throughout the canton of Zurich. I would like to thank the project team for their dedicated preparatory work and everyone who will be working as first responders in the future."

Number of first responders tripled

Since the start of the project, around 1,100 people have registered as first responders. This includes 250 first responders from the fire department who want to continue their commitment. This means that the number of first responders has almost tripled. The number of First Responders is to be increased to up to 2,500. The "First Responder Canton Zurich" pilot project is being carried out on behalf of the Cantonal Council in collaboration with the Department of Health. The pilot project is expected to last three years.
