Early fire protection planning

Fire protection does not always receive the necessary attention in the crucial project phases. The GVZ Building Insurance of the Canton of Zurich therefore provides a tool.

Things are often hectic on the construction site during the final phase, because everything has to be ready on time. Finally, there are also those responsible for fire protection, who have to fulfill their important inspection task and complete the acceptance inspection.

Most important milestones

Because fire protection is not a negligible matter, planning must be carried out at an early stage and project changes must be adapted on an ongoing basis. Fire protection plays an important role in the project planning and implementation phase of new buildings and major conversions - the corresponding measures affect almost all areas and trades of a building.

To ensure that nothing is forgotten, the Building Insurance of the Canton of Zurich has published a brochure to assist with scheduling and task planning. The paper, entitled "Planning fire protection at an early stage - guidance for owners and planners", contains the most important milestones for fire protection during the individual project phases: Preliminary Studies, Design, Tendering, Implementation and Management. To ensure that no point is forgotten, the guidebook includes a checklist for each individual project phase as an aid to reflection.

The effects of poor fire protection planning usually become noticeable before construction approval and during realization shortly before occupancy. Cost-optimized implementation of fire protection regulations is then hardly possible at this point, warns the cantonal building insurance.
