With the onset of winter, the number of burglaries tends to increase. Burglars take advantage of both the gloomier days and the early onset of dusk and spontaneously break into single-family homes, apartments or basements of apartment buildings, as well as commercial properties, according to the Zurich Cantonal Police (Kapo).

Caution is also advisable when unknown persons move through a neighborhood, peddling or begging at the front door and possibly demanding help, as the Kapo further emphasizes. In many cases, the willingness to help is shamelessly exploited.

During the campaign "In case of suspicion call 117 - Together against burglary", posters and flyers in bright colors will draw the attention of the population to call the emergency number 117 in case of suspicious perceptions. In addition, the police are increasing their patrols and monitoring activities.

You can protect yourself against burglary!

With an individual burglary protection consultation by the police, weak points are analyzed and possible solutions are pointed out. The Zurich Cantonal Police and the Zurich City Police offer this advisory service free of charge to private individuals and businesses, it says.

Kapo Zurich is carrying out the campaign - which will last until the end of February 2024 - together with the municipal police forces of Zurich and Winterthur, the other municipal police forces of the canton of Zurich and Aargau, the cantonal police forces of Solothurn, Aargau, Basel-Stadt and Landschaft, as well as various police corps of the Eastern Switzerland and Central Switzerland Concordat.
