Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter has agreed with the interior ministers of Germany, Austria and France to fully reopen the borders between these neighboring countries as soon as possible and restore freedom of travel. Provided the pandemic situation of the three countries allows it, the opening should take place on June 15, the Federal Council writes.
The head of justice had informed the Federal Council at its meeting on 13 May 2020 about this relaxation step at the border with the three neighboring countries. The Federal Council will still discuss the details at its meeting on May 27, along with the other relaxations in the entry and residence restrictions, it further said. The FDJP could remove countries from the list of high-risk countries on its own authority after consultation with the FDHA and FDFA. The relaxation step can of course only take place under the condition that the positive developments of the epidemic situation continue, the press release emphasizes.
