Flood alarm along the Sihl
Schutz und Rettung and the Zurich City Police warned the population today at about 3 p.m. via Twitter messages that the Sihl could overflow its banks.

The Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air in the Canton of Zurich (Awel) carried out a controlled drawdown in Lake Sihl on Thursday. According to police, this resulted in an increase of the Sihl water level by about 70 cm. The Awel and the SBB thus tested an improved control of the Sihlsee.
Shortly before 3 p.m., according to media reports, the water in Langnau am Albis actually rose sharply. Therefore, it is to be expected in the next few minutes that as a result of the flood, the shore zones in the city of Zurich could also be affected, the city police said. At about 4 p.m., the "flood" actually reached the city. The police were on the move with various task forces on the shore zones and informed people present about the possible danger. Crowds of onlookers watched the spectacle. (rs)
