On Thursday evening, June 16 at 6:50 p.m., the Swiss Air Force apparently had to move in for an emergency.

The loud bang, caused by the transition phase from takeoff to supersonic flight, was clearly audible. A short time later, the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) confirmed on social media that the Swiss Air Force had been deployed.

A passenger plane en route from Pristina to Zurich may have needed assistance, according to a federal release later emerged. Two FA-18 fighters immediately took off from Payerne airfield to carry out their mission as Army Air Police.

In a "hot mission", the goal was to find the plane in the shortest possible time and escort it to the most suitable airport.

According to the Army Defense Group, this required two alarm takeoffs in Payerne. The sonic boom that could still be heard in the greater Lucerne area was due to the two launches of the army aircraft.
