Check vaccination protection

For European Immunization Week, the Federal Office of Public Health is encouraging everyone to check their vaccination status.

Vaccinations should be checked and refreshed regularly.

The European Immunization Week will take place from April 25 to 30, 2016. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) takes this opportunity to remind people to check their vaccination protection and to revaccinate if necessary.

Vaccination not only protects one's own health, but also the weakest members of society, as the FOPH emphasizes. But it is precisely in them that a measles infection can cause complications that can be fatal. It is therefore particularly important that parents, family members and caregivers of young children are vaccinated.

However, many do not even know whether they have been sufficiently vaccinated. The FOPH therefore calls on young parents in particular to have their vaccination status checked.

For measles, all persons born after 1963 who have not had the disease should make up the missing vaccinations to the total of two doses. For pertussis, vaccination is required for 25- to 29-year-olds and for anyone with close contact with infants younger than six months. The recommendation also applies to pregnant women, who are advised to be vaccinated from the second trimester of pregnancy.

Electronic vaccination card

A newer tool should simplify the vaccination issue considerably: The electronic vaccination card. It sends e-mail or SMS notifications when a vaccination is missing or a booster is indicated. During the vaccination week, the electronic card can be created and validated free of charge. It is available on the website www.meineimpfungen.ch.
