ISSS Excellence Awards presented
The Information Security Society Switzerland (ISSS) has presented its award this year.
With the ISSS-With the ISSS Security Award, Switzerland's largest association of ICT security professionals honors first-class bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses on IT and information security. The award was presented at an ISSS Security Talk in Zurich on November 15. The ISSS Excellence Award 2016, endowed with 4,000 Swiss francs, goes to Jonas Wagner, MSc Engineering of Bern University of Applied Sciences, for his excellent master's thesis "Deckard - Automated discovery and analysis of code similarities in malware," the ISSS writes.
The discovery and analysis of commonalities in the code of different malware programs, called code clustering, have recently attracted considerable attention in both research and IT security practice. In his work, Wagner combines existing code clustering technologies in novel ways to design and implement a system that is both accurate and practical, according to ISSS. The system is very powerful and will be piloted in the production environment of an industrial company in the near future, he said.
He said the ISSS Excellence Award was given to Wagner in recognition of the quality, breadth and significance of his thesis.
