Annual report of the Cyber Defence Campus

For the first time, the Cyber-Defence Campus published an annual report in February. Among other things, this report provides detailed insights into the activities of the year 2021. The report highlights various activities as well as the upcoming research and innovation projects.

The Cyber Defence Campus (CYD), which was founded in January 2019 and acts as a link between the DDPS, industry and academia, focuses on the early identification of trends, research and innovation, and the training of cyber specialists. With regard to new achievements in IT security technologies, the following was According to the annual report In 2021, the CYD further developed its collaboration with universities such as ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, ZHAW and the University of Lausanne and expanded it to include new fields of technology such as post-quantum cryptography and the protection of critical infrastructures in line with the needs of defense. In the area of fostering cyber talent, CYD, together with EPF Lausanne, was able to award ten fellowships to talented students in 2021.

In addition, events such as hackathons, the conferences or the Cyber Start-up Challenge respectively the networking of the Swiss cyber defense community were further advanced in 2021. For example, a car hackathon was organized by CYD in October 2021. A total of 20 participants from ETH Zurich, Oxford University, Fedpol, the Swiss Armed Forces, and Armasuisse conducted a military investigation of possible security vulnerabilities of seven different vehicles from various manufacturers during the week-long hackathon and took their first steps in this security area.

As part of the early detection of cyber technologies and new attack patterns, the systematic selection of new skills and start-ups was extended to six additional countries. In addition to the existing technology and market monitoring in Switzerland, the USA and Singapore, cyber developments and trends in the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Israel and Estonia will now also be actively monitored with an international partner network. The latest developments from these regions will thus be analyzed at an early stage.
