Zurich cantonal police: New head of the criminal investigation department
Security Director Mario Fehr has appointed Jann Leutenegger as the new head of the criminal investigation department of the Zurich cantonal police. He will take up the post on May 1, 2024.
Jann Leutenegger (47) joined the Zurich cantonal police in 2001. After graduating from police school, he followed a proven career path with various positions in the security police, regional police, airport police and criminal investigation department. Jann Leutenegger has held management positions in the cantonal police since 2013, first as deputy chief of the post at Zurich main station, then as district chief of Affoltern a. A. and then for six years as head of the criminal police data management department. He has been head of the Limmattal/Albis regional division since 2022.
Jann Leutenegger has further practical management experience as an incident commander at major criminal police events, but also as a former platoon commander in the Swiss army. Between 2004 and 2010, he studied political science, criminal law, criminal procedure law and constitutional law at the University of Zurich, graduating with a Master of Arts UZH.
Cantonal President Mario Fehr congratulates the new head of the criminal investigation department on his promotion: "As an extremely experienced, crisis-tested police officer and political scientist, Jann Leutenegger has the best qualifications for the job."
Christiane Lentjes Meili has headed the Criminal Investigation Department since March 2010 and will continue to do so until the end of April 2024. She has decided to take on a new professional challenge as part of her self-employment.
