Today, the organizational units of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Zurich City Police (Stapo) are spread over several locations and rented in non-city properties - in some cases subletting from the Canton of Zurich With the relocation of the Cantonal Police to the Police and Justice Center (PJZ), this lease will be terminated, as stated at the recent press conference.

As a replacement for six sites, therefore, a central New construction is planned on the municipal property on Mühleweg - between Hardturmstrasse and Förrlibuckstrasse - in Zurich West, said security chief Richard Wolff. The property, with about 370 workstations, must be realized by 2021, he said, to ensure the seamless operation of the Criminal Investigation Department. The public building will be located vis-à-vis the "Toni-Areal's" realized.

Operational synergies thanks to merger

The new building will house offices and ancillary rooms for the investigation and search services, the permanent detective service (detective bureau with 24-hour service), management and administration, detention cells and other premises under one roof. The spatial consolidation of the Criminal Investigation Department would result in valuable operational synergies in terms of cooperation and would also increase operational efficiency, it was emphasized.

Overall performance study instead of project competition

The time frame for the implementation of the new building project dictated the procedure for this project, say those responsible. In the case of an overall performance study, not only mature competition entries are required, but also a binding work price and occupancy date, as well as a competent team for the planning and execution of the new building.

The winning team of this project is Erne Bauunternehmung and Penzel Valier. According to the information, the construction costs amount to around 70 million Swiss francs. According to the media release, a total credit of around 85 million francs is expected to be submitted to the electorate one day.

Competition exhibition

All projects are on display from Wednesday, January 25, to Sunday, February 5, 2017, in the exhibition room of the Office of Structural Engineering of the City of Zurich, Pavillon Werd, Morgartenstrasse 40, 8004 Zurich (Monday to Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday/Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.)
