Lenovo recalls certain ThinkPad notebooks

In voluntary cooperation with the Heavy Current Inspectorate ESTI, Lenovo is recalling certain batches of ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebooks. These pose a risk of overheating.

Lenovo has determined that a screw may not be properly tightened on a limited number of its laptops. This could damage the battery and cause it to overheat, potentially posing a fire hazard, according to the Swiss Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI).

Which products are affected?

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th generation notebooks (machine type 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 or 20K4) manufactured between December 2016 and October 2017 are affected by the recall. They were sold either directly to customers, via business partners or online via Lenovo.com.

At https://support.lenovo.com/X1C_5GEN_RECALL customers can check whether they own an affected device.

What should affected consumers do?

Customers who own a notebook affected by this recall should turn off their system and not use the notebook until the service review is complete. The affected devices will be checked free of charge and repaired if necessary.
