"Lockdown light" likely to last longer

So far, a "lockdown light" applies until January 22 for museums, pubs and other institutions. According to media reports, the federal measures are likely to be extended a further time on Wednesday.

Like the "View" reports, the "lockdown light" is likely to last much longer. The newspaper has learned from two sources that the Federal Council on Wednesday called for restaurants, fitness centers and museums to remain closed across the country, possibly until the end of February. Stores without goods for daily use are to remain closed. Until now, the cantons were allowed to decide whether or not to make use of exceptions, under constant observation of the R-value. In the meantime, however, the cantons are likely to have had enough of this. Thus, the Federal Council should have a good chance of getting through with another package of measures.

The further measures, which will be decided on January 13, are likely to include even a nationwide closure of the stores, respectively the stores that do not sell food, as the "Tages-Anzeiger" writes. Home office recommendations also seem possible. Also conceivable is a renewed closure of the schools.

Gastrosuisse, meanwhile, demands in a communication shortly before the end of the year, "that the federal government will pay for the damage it has done." For the time of the lockdown, the association believes that a rapid compensation for losses should be granted in order to be able to pay out à fonds perdu contributions quickly. Gastrosuisse says it will continue to monitor and reassess the situation on January 6.
