More competence for occupational health and safety

In an interview with Arbeitsschutz Aktuell TV, Prof. Dr. Rainer von Kiparski, Chairman of the German Association for Safety, Health and Environmental Protection at Work (VDSI), calls for a strengthening of the players involved in occupational health and safety.

In particular, the approximately 620,000 safety officers in German companies are to be given more extensive tasks and responsibilities in the future. As "occupational safety and health officers," they will be able to play an even more active role in establishing a sustainable safety culture in companies. At the same time, as Environment, Health & Safety Managers (EHS Managers), occupational safety specialists are to provide holistic advice to entrepreneurs in the future.

Prevention engine
"We must make employees the driving force behind prevention," demands VDSI Chairman Rainer von Kiparski. A sustainable Prevention culture can only be successfully established if employees are actively involved in this process. The group of around 620,000 safety officers in German companies plays a key role and acts as a multiplier. "They are the link between employees and entrepreneurs. They know the strengths and weaknesses of the company, the working situation on site. They speak the language of their colleagues and have the necessary tact in communication," says von Kiparski.

Holistic consulting - also in virtual space
The group of around 73,000 occupational safety specialists is also to be VDSI with additional competencies, for example through qualifications in environmental protection issues. Following the international example of EHS managers, occupational safety specialists are to advise the entrepreneur holistically in the future - on environmental and health protection as well as on occupational safety issues. "The specialist must already be involved in the planning processes, because this is where the safety and protection concepts are defined, both in terms of hardware and software," says von Kiparski.

Prevention 4.0 congress block at Arbeitsschutz Aktuell in Stuttgart
It is precisely these new methods and processes that will be the subject of discussion at an entire congress block on the topic of "Prevention 4.0" at this year's trade fair Arbeitsschutz Aktuell in Stuttgart. "The latest research results and studies will be presented, which will provide valuable contributions to the development of trade aids and recommendations - including intelligent sensors and controls as well as collaborative robots that will work in direct contact with humans in the future," promises VDSI Chairman Rainer von Kiparski. The studies are currently being realized and evaluated by the VDSI in cooperation with partners.
