Enabling decent work worldwide
The Confederation is strengthening Switzerland's commitment to the International Labor Organization (ILO). The aim is to combat poverty and promote decent work.
President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann has signed an agreement with Guy Ryder, Director-General of the ILO, which aims to strengthen development cooperation between Switzerland and the ILO. In his speech at the ILO plenary session, the President called on the tripartite actors of the ILO (governments; employers; workers) to face up to the challenges of the world of work of the future and to work to create a framework that favors the creation of decent jobs.
The agreement signed with the ILO strengthens Switzerland's commitment to the fight against poverty and the promotion of decent work in the service of peace and social partnership. Switzerland finances ILO projects that promote economic productivity and ensure decent working conditions for migrants in developing and emerging countries.
The agreement makes it possible to support sustainable small and medium-sized enterprises and prepare them thoroughly for international competition. It also aims to actively promote ILO programs on labour migration and fair recruitment, as well as to promote the contribution of migrant workers to sustainable development. Through this new commitment, Switzerland aims to contribute to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
