The BE SMART WORK SAFE campaign by FCOS, Seco and the cantons aims to reduce the high accident rates among young people starting their careers. In its third year, the campaign aims to bring the topic of occupational safety closer to young people by means of an online competition.

At www.bs-ws.ch young people can take part in an online game in which they watch short films and have to use their detective skills to find out how the protagonists misbehaved at work. Tips to help them do this are designed to be memorized.

BE SMART WORK SAFE aims to spread the word about occupational safety via social media and other channels used by young people. The main message is that only those who behave correctly at work can make the most of their free time.

High accident rate
Around 24,500 young people have accidents at work every year. Most apprentices have accidents while performing traditional manual tasks: Cuts and fractures to the hands are the most common injuries among young people starting their careers. In second place are eye injuries such as splinters or liquids in the eyes. Many of these injuries could be prevented by correct behavior, such as wearing the correct protective equipment.
