New protective vests for the cantonal police

Security Director Mario Fehr has signed an order enabling the replacement of protective vests for the front-line forces of the cantonal police. To protect them from injuries caused by gunfire as well as from stab wounds and cuts, all police officers of the cantonal police in frontline functions have a personal undergarment protective vest. Until now, they wore this vest concealed under their clothing.

This Protective vests must be replaced in a staggered manner over the next four years (2019 to 2022). At the same time, the cantonal police are aiming for added functional value in the new protective equipment: through additional gilets, which are worn as the top garment and can also accommodate the two ballistic insertion protective elements on the front and back. This facilitates the rapid donning and brief removal of the protective vest in situations where the constant wearing of a Protective equipment is not required.

Procurement and financing

Within the framework of an open tender procedure, four suppliers submitted offers for such protective vests. The company Action-Sport Landolt AG, Matten bei Interlaken, fulfilled the specifications and quality requirements and submitted the lowest-priced offer. The model of protective vest offered has already been procured by various security organizations in Switzerland and abroad. The contract, which has now been awarded by Security Director Mario Fehr, amounts to a total of 960,000 Swiss francs.
