New video software installed

The Grand Casino Bern has been one of Siaxma AG's best customers for years. A permanent exchange, far-sighted joint decisions and a lot of mutual trust are the drivers of such a partnership. This was demonstrated by the recent, not entirely voluntary switch to new video software. A public report from Siaxma.

The switch to the new video software was involuntary because Siaxma's long-time supplier had announced that they would stop supporting and developing their software. Unfortunately, the successor product was not suitable for casinos. Siaxma had to deliver this Job's news to the customer and at the same time start evaluating other products. In this case, Geutebrück's product and company philosophy convinced and motivated them to propose it to the customer and to start a gradual test and pilot phase.

An inopportune moment

"We were initially dismayed, especially because the current licenses were still valid for two years and such unplanned items are of course not budgeted for," explains Hans Perren, Head of Operations at the Grand Casino. "But we had no choice but to look ahead. We could do that with a good feeling, because we trust Siaxma AG completely." The challenge with the step-by-step installation in Bern was to master everything during ongoing operations and without any system interruptions. In addition, the customer had to register the changeover with the Swiss Federal Gaming Commission (ESBK) and have it monitored by them.

Test, test and test again

Such a system change is not made lightly. Siaxma wrestled with the decision internally for about one and a half years and looked for alternatives. Geutebrück was known to Siaxma as a brand, but not their solutions in detail. In a laboratory-like environment and supported by Geutebrück technicians, they tested the software extensively and then programmed it according to the casino's specifications. First, one surveillance workstation and 20 cameras were converted and tested during one month. After the first positive experiences, two more workstations were migrated to the Geutebrück system, but the previous platform was always left running as a backup. After the SFGB gave the go-ahead, Siaxma converted the entire casino to the new system just six months later. The new software brings some added value to the security team at the Grand Casino.

Especially the users rave

Basically, a technological leap of several generations was made with Geutebrück. Without getting lost in technical details: The product is designed with foresight and increases efficiency and performance in video surveillance. This is also confirmed by Hans Perren: "We continue to work with the same cameras as before and only get more image quality out of them. This has saved us having to completely replace the hardware - apart from the servers, of course. What my people particularly appreciate is the individual interface configuration, i.e. they can determine and save the selection (via drag & drop) and arrangement of the camera images on the monitor themselves. When changing shifts, all it takes is a mouse click and each employee has their own interface in front of them."
