New head at Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Zug
At the start of the new fiscal year on October 1, 2020, Matthias Rebellius took over as head of Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Zug. The 55-year-old engineer will thus be responsible for the global building technology and power distribution activities with more than 72,000 employees and sales of around 15 billion euros. At the same time, he will become a new member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG. Rebellius will continue to be responsible for the business of Siemens Switzerland.
Matthias Rebellius has been appointed by the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG as a member of the Managing Board for five years. Since the merger of the former Energy Management and Building Technologies divisions to form Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) in April 2019, he has already made a significant contribution to the successful integration of the individual business units of SI as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Smart Infrastructure is headquartered in Zug and aims to become the leading company in the field of smart infrastructure. SI sees new growth areas at the interface of buildings and power grids: decentralized energy systems, charging management for the integration of electromobility, energy storage and new business models around the efficient use of energy. The SI core market is estimated at around 150 billion euros. With sales of around 15 billion euros, Siemens Smart Infrastructure is one of the world's largest industrial companies, with its headquarters in Switzerland, Siemens emphasizes.
Before founding Smart Infrastructure, Matthias Rebellius headed the former Siemens Building Technologies Division for four years, into which the former Swiss industrial companies Cerberus and Landis & Stäfa, among others, were integrated.
Still responsible for Switzerland
In addition to his global role at Smart Infrastructure, Matthias Rebellius has also headed the business of Siemens Switzerland since April 2019. "Siemens has been active in this country for more than 125 years," says Rebellius. "Thanks to our broad portfolio and expertise in digitalization, we will continue to play a formative role here in the decades to come. The fact that Smart Infrastructure's global activities are managed from Zug underscores the great importance of Switzerland as a location for Siemens."
Swiss representative on the Executive Committee
For Matthias Rebellius, the year 2020 is also special from a personal perspective. "I became a Swiss citizen this spring. I've lived here for 17 years and it makes me proud to make my contribution to society." This is the first time that a Swiss member of the Corporate Executive Committee has led a Siemens operating business. Matthias Rebellius lives in Meilen/ZH, is married and has two grown-up children.
