Open letter to the Federal Council on the coronavirus
In an open letter, many professors and responsible persons, through the communication department of the University Hospital of Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Ticino, demand a more active attitude and even more concrete measures from the Swiss federal government to prevent an imminent collapse of the Swiss health care system.
Dear Federal Councillors
A persistent Transmission of the novel coronavirus from person to person in Switzerland seems unavoidable today.
The extent and impact of the outbreak in Switzerland will depend critically on how policymakers respond in the coming days.
The currently in Switzerland Regulations and measures in force are not nearly enough to prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed.
The expected excessively heavy loads health care systems and their employees will lead to higher mortality rates, both for patients and for the Employees itself.
If we manage to gain additional days and weeks to treat the seriously ill over a longer period of time, this will contribute significantly to saving the lives of a large number of citizens in Switzerland.
Yet today we are at a turning point. Every day counts.
Therefore, we appeal to you to decide quickly and courageously and thus save countless lives.
We require you to "extraordinary situation" according to epidemic law and to adopt far-reaching containment measures.
With kind regards
