Optimum plate extended

The optimal plate of the Swiss Society for Nutrition is aimed at people with a normal energy requirement. Now there are three additional variants of it.

If appetite is reduced, the proportion of protein-rich food should be increased, the SBU recommends.

The "optimal" plate shows how a balanced main meal should be composed. It is based on the
Recommendations of the Swiss Food Pyramid for adults. However, it is aimed at people who do little exercise and want to maintain their weight. If the energy requirement is lower or higher, the recommended proportions of the food groups may change.

New therefore the SBU has Three variants issued for this plate model:

The "optimal plate" for people with low energy needs - such as older people - or those who want to lose weight. This recommends increasing the proportion of vegetables and fruits at the expense of starchy foods such as pasta, rice or bread.

The "optimal plate" for increased energy needs recommends increasing the amount of starch-rich foods

The "optimal plate" for a reduced appetite recommends increasing the proportion of protein-containing foods and reducing the proportion of vegetables and fruits.

The SGE created the new plates with the support of Health Promotion Switzerland and the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO.
