Police and security issues: Guhl becomes presi
Bernhard Guhl, a member of the BDP National Council from Aargau, takes over as head of the parliamentary group for police and security issues.
Until now, the parliamentary Group for police and security issues was chaired by Max Chopard-Acklin, an SP National Councilor from Aargau; he was not re-elected to the National Council in October 2015. Following in his footsteps in the parliamentary group is now Bernhard Guhlwho is also a member of the Legal Commission. Bernese SVP National Councilor Andrea Geissbühler continues to serve as vice president. The secretariat of the group is provided by the Association of Swiss Police Officers (VSPB) in Lucerne.
Guhl emphasizes: "It is important to me that police officers are adequately protected - on the one hand from violence and on the other hand from possible prosecution by the state. After all, he says, it cannot be right that people who do this job conscientiously are ultimately dragged before the courts because of a shot that was justifiably fired.
Violence against police as a topic
In the spring session, the parliamentary group for police and security issues will organize the next meeting in Bern, as the VSPB writes. The topic of "violence against police officers" will be taken up. "It almost seems as if our council colleagues are not yet fully aware of the urgent need for action in this dossier," Guhl said. He added that they intend to change this at the next meeting.
