Swiss Post and SBB: uniform logins

Anyone who wants to purchase products and services online today has to register on the provider's portal, i.e. enter their coordinates and select a user name and password. This is cumbersome and can very quickly become a security risk due to the variety and confusion. Swiss Post and SBB are therefore launching a standard login with a uniform digital identity.

Thanks to the initiative by Swiss Post and SBB, online services should be possible via a single secure login, for both private individuals and companies, according to the statement. Data protection is the top priority of the new offering, the two organizations write. The new digital identity will be free of charge for users. It will initially be available for the services of Swiss Post and SBB from 2017 and will later be extended to online services of other providers in Switzerland.

Competition authorities still have to approve

Swiss Post and SBB will offer the new digital identity to registered users of their online services as a first step. The plan is to make the digital identity available to Swiss Post portal customers from 2017 and SwissPass customers from 2018. The two major companies plan to introduce the services related to the new digital identity via a joint venture, subject to a positive decision by the relevant competition authorities, they wrote. They are open to collaborating with other companies at a later date, they said.
