Recall: "SKYLOTEC" via ferrata sets
In cooperation with the bfu, BACOL AG is recalling various via ferrata sets of the "SKYLOTEC" brand that are equipped with SKYSAFE carabiners for a precautionary check. Since the breakage values of the carabiners vary too much, there is a risk of accidents.
The carabiners that may not conform to the standard will be checked free of charge and replaced if necessary.
What is the danger posed by the affected products?
During a routine quality check of a batch of the SKYSAFE carabiner, it was found that its breakage values were scattered. In an enlarged random sample, scatter values were determined up to the range no longer conforming to standards or relevant to safety. Accordingly, a Risk of accident cannot be ruled out.
Which products are affected?
The following six via ferrata sets with SKYSAFE carabiners are affected by the product recall (see picture of affected sets):
- RIDER 3.0 / Item number L-0672
- RIDER 3.0 / Item number L-0612
- SKYRIDER / Item number L-0039
- SKYSAFE / part number L-0056
- SKYSAFE II / part number L-0156
- SKYSAFE III / Item number L-0673
What should affected consumers do?
Customers in possession of one of the affected via ferrata sets are requested to stop using it and to contact BACOL AG so that the return process can be initiated. The affected via ferrata sets will be subjected to a safety inspection free of charge, and non-compliant carabiners will be replaced. For the RIDER 3.0 and SKYSAFE III models, the webbing fall arresters will also be updated in accordance with EN958:2017.
