Salto acquires biometrics developer TouchByte

Salto Systems is betting on the use of biometric technology as the future of access control, the company writes. The digital revolution is changing many areas of society: digital IDs, digital identities and biometrics are increasingly becoming the standard in many industries, with automatic facial recognition proving to be a key technology, according to the access control specialist.

Accelerate introduction of facial recognition

Over the past two years, Salto has accelerated the development of end-to-end access systems through various strategic investments, he said. In 2022, he said, the company had already acquired Cognitec, a German specialist in facial recognition solutions. By integrating Cognitec's flagship FaceVACS algorithm into its hardware, Salto will add a whole new set of capabilities to its solution expertise to better meet user needs, the vendor writes.

Through the acquisition of TouchByte, a Cornwall, UK-based technology company focused on facial recognition, Salto will significantly accelerate the development and launch of its first facial recognition access control solution. The basis for this would be TouchByte's management platform and hardware, which are based on the Cognitec algorithm.
