Swiss security industry cracks the 750 million mark

Swiss safety technology can look back on a successful 2019. It closed the year with a record result, as the industry association has just announced. This is entirely thanks to the Fire section.

SES Association

The 2019 industry statistics of the SES-Association (Swiss installers of security systems) shows that the security industry in Switzerland has been able to take advantage of the upswing of 2018 and again increased by 4%. With total sales of 752 million francs, the local safety technology companies reached the ¾ billion mark for the first time. This corresponds to nominal growth of 29 million francs. The industry statistics are collected annually by the SES Association.

Security section down, Fire section up

A closer look reveals that the Security section (EMA, VS, AC) closed with a minus of 0.8 million francs, as the SES writes. The Fire section (BMA, NLA, TLA, GWA, SAA) almost single-handedly accounts for the growth of 4% or a plus of 29.7 million francs. According to SES, special mention should be made of the Extinguishing section, which shines with a plus of 12.5% (15.4 million Swiss francs); wet and dry extinguishing systems thus contributed to a good half of the growth in 2019.

The downer was once again the burglar alarm systems sector, with a minus of 4.4% (-5.4 million Swiss francs). Unfortunately, according to SES, the downward trend could not be stopped. As a look at the statistics shows, since 2016 the reported turnover has developed negatively by a total of 12%. The bright spot in the security sky remains Access Control (AC) with a plus of 5% (CHF 5.3 million), which has once again continued the positive trend of recent years.

In the 2018 industry statistics, SES also counted the market values of voice alarm systems (SAA) for the first time: Their order volume amounted to 11 million Swiss francs and could be increased to just over 15 million Swiss francs in 2019.

Who is a member of the association

The SES association comprises the leading companies in safety technology in Switzerland. The association is thematically divided into the sections Fire (BMA, NLA, TLA, GWA, RWA and SAA) and Security (EMA, VS, AC). SES members belong to specialized companies which are recognized by the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers (VKF) and/or which are certified according to SES guidelines. SES members undertake to comply with a wide range of quality criteria and safety standards. (SES/rs)
