Security Essen with six overarching themes
From September 25 to 28, 2018, Security Essen will be the meeting place for the international security and fire protection industry. For the first time, the event will take place in the modernized grounds.
The world's leading trade fair for civil security, the Security Essen 2018 in North Rhine-Westphalia, has repositioned itself. Once again, a good 1000 exhibitors will present their product portfolio at this major event. Not only in terms of content, but also spatially, the trade event is realigning itself, as the exhibition center has been modernized. Eight large exhibition halls on one level have been created from the previous 18 halls, some of which were divided into small sections and some of which had two floors.
Six themes
For this reason, Security Essen is now divided into six superordinate themes:
- Services in Hall 1
- Access, mechanics and systems in Halls 2, 3 and the Galeria
- Video in halls 4 and 5
- Fire, burglary and systems in hall 6 and 7
- Perimeter in Hall 7
- Cyber security and economic protection in Hall 8
The landmark of the new building is a 2,000 m² glass foyer east; from here, one can directly access all exhibition halls. The light-flooded architecture with the striking canopy is connected to the subway. From the foyer, there is also direct access to the new conference rooms in the Congress Center East.
New with Cybersecurity Conference
In this year's Accompanying program at Security Essen will reflect the current development of threats. In addition to the usual strong range of products and services for classic, physical security, this year's focus will also be on digital security to a greater extent than before. This will be made clear, among other things, by the fact that for the first time a dedicated hall (Hall 8) will be available for the topics of cybersecurity and economic protection, and a cybersecurity conference will be held jointly with the German Federal Association for Security Technology (BHE). Additional expertise will be provided by the technical support of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
Point out weak points
An important aspect of the Cybersecurity Conference in Essen will be to show examples of how security vendors can ensure that their solutions do not contain potentially dangerous vulnerabilities.
Many exhibitors at Security Essen 2018 will offer security solutions in which information technology plays a central role. Monitoring, analysis, communication and documentation are no longer conceivable without microprocessors, without software support and without network connection. Accordingly, many providers of classic security solutions are also focusing on cyber security. Both in the solutions they offer and in their own interests, because retrofitting requirements, for example because surveillance cameras are easy to hijack, hotel locking systems can be tricked or alarm systems sabotaged, are bad for the image and ultimately also for the company's bottom line.
