Safe handling of cooling lubricants

A guide shows what responsible handling of cooling lubricants in the workplace should look like.

Cooling lubricants are usually complex mixtures which, if handled carelessly, can pose health hazards to the people working in the process. Their influence on the environment must also be taken into account, especially with regard to safe disposal and groundwater hazards.

They are mainly used in metalworking companies, where they are mostly used in the machining and processing of metals in machine tools

With the guide "Cooling Lubricants - Fresh Air at the Workplace", the Aerosols Working Group of the Air Pollution Control Department of the German General Air Technology Association (VDMA) provides a practice-oriented introduction to the complex subject of airborne cooling lubricants.

The revised edition of the guide covers legal basics and definitions on extraction as well as fire and explosion protection through to selection criteria, design criteria and profitability calculations of extraction systems. References to the current standards and guidelines complete the range.

The guide provides information on possible hazards and also explains how to handle airborne substances responsibly.

The brochure is available at air pollution control.vdma.org available for download. Print copies are available from the Air Pollution Control Department at VDMA on request.
