In the private security industry, a growth in turnover from 10.3 to approx. 11.1 billion euros (+7.6%) is emerging in 2022. Already with the increases of recent years, the industry's revenue has more than doubled within just one decade, according to the German Security Industry Association (BDSW). "Our range of tasks has expanded enormously in recent years and will continue to change constantly. The security industry can and wants to do more and should be strategically and operationally involved in the crisis management of the Federal Republic in the future," says BDSW CEO Florian Graf.

The sales increases are distributed within economic class 80, which includes security companies, detective agencies as well as security services with surveillance and alarm systems.

Shortage of skilled workers a problem

The number of employees also increased. The Federal Employment Agency recently published the figures for employees as of the 3rd quarter of 2022. According to the data, more than 270,000 employees now work in the security industry. The private security industry has thus succeeded in remaining on a growth trajectory, it said. "Regardless of this, the shortage of skilled workers is and will remain such a massive issue that we will have to make considerable efforts in the coming years," Graf emphasized. This is precisely why the BDSW has been committed to steadily increasing quality in the industry for many years - starting with training companies, qualifications and much more.
