Security industry unable to maintain previous year's high

The Association of Swiss Installers of Security Systems, or SES for short, has presented its latest industry statistics.

SES, industry statistics

As the association's SES The industry statistics collected for 2017 show that the high of 2016 could not be maintained. Sales, i.e. order volume, fell from 705.85 to 695.87 million, i.e. by just under 1.5%.

BMA and EMA were down

What is striking here is that just under 9 of the 10 millions lost are half in the area of fire alarm systems (BMA, red column in the statistics) and half in burglar alarm systems (EMA, dark green column), as the SES writes in its statement. BMA, which comprise the largest volume in the statistics, decreased from just under 268 million Fr. to just under 263 million Fr. The decline in the EMA area reduced by 3.5%. On a positive note, the dry erase sector increased by almost 3.5%. Likewise, the area of wet extinguishing (yellow column) and gas detection (orange column) would contribute with positive development to the result.

The share of video security (blue) decreased from Fr 64.28 million to Fr 63.16 million. Access control (purple column) remained virtually unchanged compared with 2016 with an order volume of just over 102,000.

Compared to 2015, the result of the security systems is very positive (see statistics). However, a multi-year comparison shows restrained growth in the security industry.

Members must comply with quality criteria

The association comprises the leading companies in safety technology in Switzerland. All SES members undertake to comply with a wide range of quality criteria and safety standards, as SES emphasizes. SES specialist companies are either recognized by the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers (VKF) and/or they are certified according to SES guidelines. In addition, the Security section also includes proven installers of access control (AC) and video surveillance systems (Videosecurity, VS), the association concludes. (rs)

The SES Annual Meeting will be held on May 29, 2018 at the Kongresshaus in Biel.
