Playground Safety

Prevent rather than cure and pay! Did you know that playgrounds and the play equipment installed on them must also meet defined standard requirements? The reality: children want to be active, are inventive and high-spirited. For them, a slide can be played on in a completely different way. The bravest climb everything, in unimaginable ways. Accidents can therefore never be ruled out.

The trip to the playground should be a pleasant experience for children and accompanying persons. The safety of the equipment plays a major role in this. In order to ensure this, playground operators must observe a number of things. Although inspections are not required by law, the operators are responsible for the safety of the playgrounds.

Playground expert Peter Gardo from the Swiss Safety Center AG answers the most important questions about this. The technical article in the SAFETY FORUM No. 1 of March 2020 describes how compliance with the standard can prevent serious accidents without reducing the value of play. It covers maintenance and inspection, proper installation of play equipment, drop heights, catch points, shock-absorbing floors and more.
