Blasting passes: Deferral of training obligation due to Corona

Anyone who professionally handles explosives and certain pyrotechnic items needs the necessary identification. The refresher courses required every five years cannot be held at present or can only be held to a limited extent due to the corona crisis. For this reason, the Federal Council is granting a temporary postponement of the training obligation.

In Switzerland, only trained specialists are allowed to carry out blasting operations. These people, who work as blasting experts in road and tunnel construction, avalanche blasting experts or bomb disposal experts, for example, must refresh their knowledge and practical skills every five years. Without the appropriate training, they lose their so-called blasting and use licenses.

Deferral until the end of January 2021

However, as of March 17, 2020, no face-to-face courses can be held due to the Corona crisis. Distance learning is not an alternative for these courses with practical parts. In order to prevent existing badges from losing their validity and holders from no longer being able to perform their professional activities, the Federal Council provides for a postponement of the training obligation until January 27, 2021. After this date, the training obligation will apply again without restriction. Around 500 people are directly affected by the amendment to the ordinance.
