Road traffic accidents 2023: Fewer deaths, more serious injuries

Last year, 236 people lost their lives in road accidents in Switzerland and 4096 people were seriously injured. This means that the number of fatalities fell slightly compared to the previous year. However, the number of people seriously injured has risen. This is according to the 2023 road accident statistics from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO).

The number of fatalities on Swiss roads fell last year. A total of 236 people died. This corresponds to a decrease of 5 fatalities compared to 2022. In contrast, there was an increase in the number of serious injuries. Here, the number rose from 4002 to 4096 people.

As in 2022, these figures are high. 236 deaths on Swiss roads correspond to the second-highest figure in the last five years. The number of serious injuries in 2023 was the highest for ten years. The number of serious accidents (fatalities and serious injuries) has therefore continued to develop negatively.
