A working group consisting of representatives of water utilities and various professional associations*, as well as a tunnel construction specialist, has revised the "Guidelines for the connection of sprinkler systems to the drinking water supply network" issued by the Swiss Gas and Water Association (SVGW) from the year 1999 fundamentally revised. The consultation will take place from mid-June to mid-September among the SVGW water supply members as well as the relevant authorities, associations and interested parties, as the SVGW has just announced.

New guideline is comprehensive

The previous guideline only addressed sprinkler systems. According to the SVGW, the future guideline deals with all aspects of water supply for the provision of extinguishing water: starting with the determination of the extinguishing water requirement and the extinguishing reserve, through the determination of pipe widths in the water distribution network, including the connection lines to the hydrants, to the water extinguishing stations, indoor hydrants and sprinkler systems installed in the buildings. In addition, requirements for extinguishing equipment in tunnel systems and on fire-fighting vehicles are described.

*In addition to SVGW representatives, the working group consists of experts from the following associations: Fire Service Coordination Switzerland (FKS)Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers (VKF)Swiss Installer of Security Systems (SES)
