Symposium "The Art of Security

On November 21, 2019, the Securiton symposium "The Art of Security" will be held for the first time at the Empa Academy in Dübendorf. Topics include security in museums and in the Nest building of the future.

Today, burglary protection is caught between tradition and modernity. On the one hand, intrusion detection systems must comply with proven standards and monitor their protected area around the clock. On the other hand, they should be integrated into innovative system concepts and be mobile and remotely operable. The "Late Afternoon Symposium" will show how Securiton manages this balancing act between secure and smart.

A look behind the museum backdrop

The National Museum in Zurich houses the largest collection of cultural history in Switzerland and today has a complex building structure due to constant expansions. Walter Milan, technical director of the museum and security officer of the museum group, explains at the event which security issues he is confronted with on a daily basis and which security solutions support him in his work.

Marco Cortesi (see photo), head of the media office and spokesman for the Zurich city police, will also be present. In his presentation, he will describe the sensational case of the art heist at the E.G. Bührle Museum, in which paintings with a total value of 180 million Swiss francs were stolen. He will give a first-hand account of how the police investigated the case and how they were finally able to convict the perpetrators.

Future building nest

Exclusive to the event, however, will also be a guided tour of the Future building nest offered. In the modular research and innovation building of Empa and Eawag, new technologies, materials and systems are tested, researched, further developed and validated under real conditions. In the Nest Building (cf. NEST Building), among other things, an intelligent and multi-stage burglar alarm system is also being tested. What safe living might look like today, tomorrow and in the future can be found out at the symposium.
