Toni talks himself into the fire

Even for a relatively dry subject, he can deliver a fiery speech: Toni Frisch, head of the Security Network Exercise 2014, or SVU 14 for short. "Blackout - power shortage situation" were the central theme of the traditional Securitas Forum Switzerland, which the company hosted today as part of the security trade fair.

The problem of "electricity shortage" seems to be of burning interest, because the large hall in the Zurich Oerlikon Exhibition Center was filled to capacity. Retired Toni Frisch tours up and down the country and never tires of achieving one of the most important goals of SVU 14: Raising awareness among the business community and society about the results, including the weak points, of the nationwide exercise held in November 2014. There is no denying that there is an endless dependence on this one resource. Thanks to the exercise, which revealed deficiencies at all levels, there will probably be less of a rude awakening should Day X arrive at some point, Frisch sums up before the Securitas guests today.

After his blazing speech, Bernese Cantonal Councillor Hans-Jürg Käser, Werner Meier, Head of Group Security at Alpiq, and Daniel Schlup from SBB Emergency and Crisis Management joined him on the podium. Schlup is convinced that in the event of a power shortage, an SBB emergency timetable with limited services can be maintained, which is not least important for the country's food supply.

"The population cannot imagine what would happen if nothing worked in the comfort zone of Switzerland," Käser said. He referred to the canton of Bern, which is drawing conclusions from the weaknesses of SVU 14 and developing cantonal measures.

Werner Meier confirmed that the results of the exercise also imposed new homework on an electricity supplier like Alpiq, which wants to work even more closely with the cantons in the future.
