Fire protection: larger test laboratories - more capacity

The Product Certification Body for Fire Protection in Nuremberg has started its activities. The two large fire furnaces allow new possibilities.

After 15 years, the last fire test was conducted at the Nuremberg Fire Protection Center in December. In the future, all tests will only take place at the Technology Center took place in Rosenheim, as the ift Rosenheim writes. "Since European standards require a separation of personnel and structure between testing and certification, and the testing laboratories in Nuremberg were becoming too small, splitting the two areas was the logical step."

To ensure that testing and verification are planned correctly from the outset, the experts at the NPZ (Notified Product Certification Body) in Nuremberg provide manufacturers, system suppliers and planners with support on all aspects of permanent function, smoke and fire protection. This is always done in close coordination with the colleagues in Rosenheim who carry out the tests.

Increased test frequency

The relocation of the 5-by-5-meter firing kiln from Nuremberg to Rosenheim, together with the large kiln, which has space for components with dimensions of up to 8-by-5 meters, will enable an increased testing frequency at the Rosenheim Technology Center from July 1. According to ift, this will result in faster processing times.

After the tests have been carried out, the results from Rosenheim would be transmitted to the NPZ in Nuremberg. There, they would be processed into "European-ready" evidence for CE marking, for example classification reports and EXAP reports.

The new home of the "Notified Product Certification Body Fire Protection" of ift Rosenheim can be found at Gutenstetter Straße 2 in Nuremberg, directly on the Main-Danube Canal.
