Warning against "miracle alarm systems

"Just put these miracle alarm systems in a corner and the whole building is protected from burglars" - such ads are currently flooding the market. In a joint info sheet, Germany's police and industry associations warn against the use of such devices.

Alarm system, burglar alarm systems, miracle alarm systems

In contrast to Switzerland, the number of burglaries in Germany remains at a high level. That is why newspapers, magazines and the Internet are teeming with ads for "miracle alarm systems," writes the VdS, Europe's largest institute for burglary protection. Whimsical statements such as "Simply place this innovative device in a corner, and the entire building is completely monitored" would promise fast security. This "miracle performance" is supposed to be made possible by a built-in pressure gauge that functions similarly to a barometer. This is because the opening of a door or window causes slight fluctuations in the air for a short time. The devices are supposed to detect these fluctuations and issue an alarm message, as VdS emphasized in its recently published communication.

Police warns

Not only the VdS association warns, but also the official security agencies. "Such devices are even advertised as 'cosmic burglar traps,'" says Detective Chief Harald Schmidt. "The providers give the impression that no expertise is needed to protect a house or business from burglars. This statement is false! We want to clarify: According to its own catalog of duties for installers of these techniques, the police recommend the use of the proven - and of course complex - burglar alarm systems. These must have been tested for proper functioning by a certification body accredited for the field of hazard detection techniques. Although 'cosmic burglar traps' have been on the market for decades, there are still no tests by an accredited certification body. Such systems, therefore, cannot be recommended by the police."

Install only certified system

Sebastian Brose from VdS adds: "We are also very concerned about the high numbers of false alarms to be expected with these 'cosmic burglar traps'. Thus, the reputation of security technology as a whole suffers. The basic rule is: so that citizens and business owners alike can be sure that their alarm system will work reliably in an emergency, they should rely on the skills of local experts for planning and installation. certified systems rely on. This is because electronic security technology is a highly complex field and is also subject to constant change due to the perpetrators' ever new tricks."
