World Cancer Day: Working with Cancer

After a cancer diagnosis, it can positively influence the healing process if the individual continues to work.

Adjustments to the workplace may be necessary to enable return to work.

February 4 is World Cancer Day.

The Swiss Cancer League is focusing on the topic of "cancer patients in the workplace", among other things.

Since every cancer disease progresses differently and every person affected has individual needs, there is no universal recipe for resuming professional activity either. The experts of the Cancer League help with counseling, rehabilitation and with returning to work.

"More than 64,000 people between the ages of 20 and 69 are currently living with cancer in Switzerland," says Anna Zahno, who is responsible for "Cancer Affected People at Work" at the Swiss Cancer League. "Many of them continue to work after or even during treatment, which can have a positive and lasting impact on the healing process. However, this often requires adjustments to the workplace, which have to be negotiated with the employer."

The Cancer League can mediate between the employee and the employer and provide support during reintegration into everyday working life.
