Sascha Zollinger, OC President, adds: "The numerous helpers have done a great job to ensure a safe competition and fitting anniversary celebrations. We are looking forward to the competition day and to many spectators."
A meaningful leisure activity
The youth fire department has existed in the canton of Zurich for 30 years. It offers young people between the ages of 14 and 18 an exciting introduction to everyday firefighting. Every year, up to 80 young people in the canton of Zurich decide to join the youth fire department. During their training, they learn to take on responsibility and experience a strong team spirit. The youth fire department in the canton of Zurich currently has around 370 members.
The young people undergo training programs in the local fire departments and at GVZ Gebäudeversicherung Kanton Zürich, which are identical to those for members of the fire department. After reaching the age of 18, talented young firefighters can transfer directly to the militia fire department.
As the supervisory body for Zurich's fire departments, the GVZ is not only financially committed to the youth fire department, but also provides training. Among other things, the GVZ provides training materials and pays for protective clothing so that the young firefighters can complete their training safely and well protected.
