Effective prevention of violence
On April 14, a public symposium will be held on the topic "The municipalities - ideal platform for effective violence prevention. Findings from the Profil g project".
Violence, vandalism and conflicts over the use of public space present many communities with major challenges, often associated with high costs. The success of well-intentioned individual actions is usually limited and, from experience, does not last long. Effective violence prevention is based on a needs-oriented, coordinated plan of measures that fits the local conditions, is designed for the long term and is politically anchored.
The Association of Municipal Presidents of the Canton of Zurich, the cantonal child and youth promotion organization okaj zürich and RADIX are launching the project "Profil g - Prevention of Youth Violence in the Municipality" in close cooperation.
"Profil g" will initially start with the three Zurich communities of Henggart, Pfäffikon and Rümlang. These three pilot communities will be given the chance to receive professional support free of charge in planning and implementing violence prevention measures. The project will last three years. In the meantime, needs analyses have been carried out in the three communities. On the one hand, the assessment and opinion of key persons (with representatives from the associations, schools, retail trade, gastronomy, youth work, executive and administration) and explicitly also of the children and young people were collected. The pilot communities are currently prioritizing and implementing measures on this basis.
Important results and findings are already available from all three pilot communities, which we would like to make known to a wider circle and discuss within the framework of a symposium.
The public Conference will take place on Thursday,April 14, 2016 (9 am - 1 pm) at the Toni-Areal of the ZHAW, Pfingstweidstrasse 96, 8037 Zurich.
