Work smart: Swiss companies set an example

Mobile working needs support to ensure that it really is as "smart" as advertised. Device manufacturers, SBB and other service providers are doing their utmost.

Work smart: Swiss companies set an example

Work culture is becoming increasingly flexible. Today, working days can be organized more individually, flexibly and independently of location. But this is by no means the case everywhere. That's why SBB, Microsoft, Swiss Post, Witzig - The Office Company, Swisscom and Mobiliar have jointly developed the "Work Smart Initiative" was launched. These six companies want to ensure that employers create more motivating framework conditions, make better use of the labor market and make smarter use of resources and infrastructure. As part of this initiative, a charter has been drawn up, which the companies have signed, thereby committing themselves to the aforementioned goals.

SBB sets a good example
But how do companies ultimately benefit from this initiative? Stephan Osterwald, co-project manager for "Work Smart" at SBB, explains: "Companies can position themselves as an attractive employer that promotes flexible forms of work. By making smarter use of office space, buildings, rail and road, for example, companies and employees benefit from lower costs in the long term. With desk sharing, for example, workstations are used more optimally and are not temporarily empty. Working from home on a daily basis helps to relieve traffic congestion, for example. As a company, SBB AG is trying to set a good example. "If we employees do our emails at home in the morning, we can travel flexibly to our actual place of work. And the train is generally a good place to work - outside of peak times, it's undisturbed and more comfortable," says Osterwald.

"Here too, it's the CEO who sets an example of smart working" - Stephan Osterwald, co-project manager for "Work Smart" at SBB
