For the third time in the history of the national Siemens Excellence Awards, an audience award was presented in addition to the traditional jury prize. Several thousand votes were received in the public voting, in which Jo\u00ebl Alfeld emerged as the winner. In his bachelor's thesis, he developed an AI-supported algorithm that automates the sorting of used tires in cement production. This innovation makes it possible to sort used tires more efficiently and optimize the production process. This development increases productivity and improves the CO2 balance in clinker production, allowing more cement to be produced more sustainably.<\/div>\n

The jury prize was won by a female team for the first time. Andrea R\u00e4ber and Hannah Ber\u00fcter from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts won the jury prize in a neck-and-neck race. With their web application \"Rhyddm\", they were able to convince the jury at the expert voting at the FHNW in Brugg-Windisch. The app introduces music students to rhythmic notation in a playful way and is already being used in several schools.<\/div>\n

The prize money of CHF 10,000 will be divided equally between the two projects. The checks were presented by Gerd Scheller, Country CEO of Siemens Switzerland.<\/div>\n

The Excellence Award is part of the \"Future Creators\" program, with which Siemens seeks dialogue with the next generation and promotes young talent in the STEM field. \"With this commitment, we support young people in their development and training and help them to make the most of their future opportunities,\" says Gerd Scheller.<\/div>\n
