\u00abTerradura - Swiss Deep Geological Repository\u00bb: This is the name of the repository project of the century as of today. The term prevailed in the online vote against four other name suggestions. National participation process<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In recent weeks, Switzerland has voted on the name that will characterize future communication on the Swiss deep geological repository. The \u00abSwiss Deep Geological Repository Naming Forum\u00bb organized this national participation process.<\/p>\n

Interested parties from all parts of the country were able to submit their ideas online. The Name Forum jury selected five of the more than 3,000 suggestions submitted for the final online vote.<\/p>\n

The candidates were: ATLASuisse, Peradina, Stadelnova, Soluterra and Terradura.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

    The term terradura comes from \u00abterra dura\u00bb, which means \u00absolid earth\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    It had already been decided that the chosen name would bear the descriptive addition \u00abDeep Geological Repository Switzerland\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

    Easy access to a challenging project<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The deep geological repository for radioactive waste is a project of the century and affects the region around Stadel in the Zurich Unterland, Switzerland as a whole and, in the long term, future generations.<\/p>\n

    A name is an intuitive entry point - easy access to a challenging project long before technical or political details take center stage. \u00abThe process shows that participation is successful when access is easy,\u00bb says Martin K\u00fcnzi, representing the naming forum. \u00abA name creates an initial point of contact with a topic that is otherwise difficult to access.\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

    How the repository got its name<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Between August and September, 3,395 name suggestions were received. The Swiss Repository Names Forum acted as a jury and examined all ideas on the basis of the criteria published in advance: Comprehensibility, conciseness, depth of meaning and viability in several national languages. The jury members also provided feedback from their respective networks. In a consensus-oriented process, five names emerged as having the greatest potential to provide appropriate support for the project in Switzerland: ATLASuisse, Peradina, Soluterra, Stadelnova and \u2019Terradura\u00ab.<\/p>\n

    The subsequent voting phase was used throughout Switzerland - with greater participation from German-speaking Switzerland (85 %), but noticeable votes from French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino (15 %). The most popular proposal \u00abTerradura\u00bb will be used in future communications, supplemented by the descriptive addition \u00abSwiss deep geological repository\u00bb.<\/p>\n

    The name Terradura will be gradually introduced into communication over the coming weeks and months. The naming process is now complete - the public, technical and social discourse on the Swiss deep geological repository continues.<\/p>\n
