Every year, around 45,000 people are injured on Swiss football pitches, causing costs of 170 million Swiss francs. \u00a9 Suva<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On Swiss soccer fields, there are not only spectacular goals, emotional encounters and exciting duels, but also around 45 000 accidents<\/a> annually. Every third Violation<\/a> is caused by foul play. Suva and the Swiss Football Association (SFV) have therefore been campaigning for more fair play for years. An important contribution to accident prevention can be made by both the players themselves and the referees through their match management.<\/p>\n

Referees award green card<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yellow and red cards are used to punish soccer players for unfair actions, but the green card is a reward: Since the beginning of this season, referees now have the option of showing a green card in addition to the yellow and red. This recognizes players and coaches for particularly fair actions<\/a>. For regulatory reasons, referees are not allowed to honor fair actions with a green card until after the game. \"We are confident that the referees will soon be allowed to pull out the green card during the match,\" says Philippe Gassmann, campaign manager for football at Suva.<\/p>\n

Three greencards for fair play<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next Sunday, three fair actions will be honored: Johan Berisha, coach of FC Wyler, kept his cool in a thrilling cup fight against FC Locarno and made both fans and players to Fairness<\/a> encouraged. Severino Zambelli, a player for FC Bassersdorf, caught the referee's eye with his particularly fair behavior in the match against AC Taverne. And Onur Hakan Akbulut, a player for BSC Old Boys, also stood out in the Cup match against city rivals Concordia Basel. He, too, was distinguished not only by his footballing talent but also by his fairness. Berisha, Zambelli and Akbulut will receive the green card from their respective referees at the Cup final in Bern.<\/p>\n

Suva makes a donation per green card<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Greencard has primarily a symbolic character. However, at the end of the season, Suva donates 500 Swiss francs per greencard winner to PluSport. PluSport is the specialist agency for sports for the disabled in Switzerland and, together with Suva's two rehabilitation clinics in Bellikon and Sion, is committed to the integration and reintegration of people who have had accidents.<\/p>\n

Suva calls players, Referees and soccer fans to focus on fair play examples that deserve a green card<\/a> would submit.<\/p>\n
