IT security researchers from Trend Micro, together with the Hitrust (Health Information Trust Alliance) organization, have studied cybersecurity in modern hospitals. The report \"Securing Connected Hospitals<\/a>\" shows which attack vectors exist due to increasing digitalization and networking in the healthcare sector. Using the Shodan search engine, the IT researchers discovered numerous publicly discoverable networked systems. In addition to individual devices, these include networks, databases and servers with medical image material (CT, MRI and X-ray images). The discovery via Shodan does not mean that the systems are not protected or vulnerable. However, this makes it easier for cybercriminals to find security holes and thus gain access to the system. This poses an avoidable and unnecessary risk to hospitals, explains Udo Schneider of Trend Micro. According to data, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are considered the most likely and dangerous type of cyberattacks on hospitals, followed by ransomware.<\/p>\n
