Civil aviation: Adoption of new EU regulations

The Switzerland-EU Air Transport Committee has decided on the adoption of various EU decrees by Switzerland. The new provisions relate to technical safety, safety checks and air traffic control and will be added to the annex to the bilateral air services agreement.

In the area of security controls, measures for the detection of explosive devices and specific procedures for the control of cargo and mail will be updated.

Switzerland has agreed to the incorporation of various pieces of EU legislation into the Annex to the Air Transport Agreement. The most important innovations in the area of safety concern provisions for general aviation, in particular for training companies for private pilots, balloonists or glider pilots: They are to be subject to requirements specific to their activities and exempted from certain commercial aviation requirements.

In the area of security controls, measures for the detection of explosive devices and specific procedures for the control of cargo and mail will be updated.

Finally, new regulations are being introduced for air traffic control. These are essentially standards designed to ensure the continuity of networked air traffic control services. In addition, certain deadlines for the technical adaptation of aircraft are extended. The extension of the deadlines will apply until the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) adopts new technical specifications for aircraft equipment.

The new regulations will come into force on September 15, 2015, according to the Federal Office for Civil Aviation concludes.
